Popular Excursions from Komandoo

While it’s not impossible to spend your entire holiday on the island – villas, dining, the spa and entertainment are great after all – a little exploration has never hurt anyone, and it would be a pity to travel this far and not do a couple of excursions from Komandoo to really appreciate the beauty of the Maldives.

You can choose from fishing trips, local island visit, sailing, diving and snorkelling, even golf trips, but if you need some help narrowing down the choices, these are the three we suggest you block time for when at Komandoo:

Luxury sailing. Enjoy a wonderful day sailing aboard a classic wooden yacht. Sail across the atoll and admire palm-fringed islands and lagoons, sunbathe, snorkel and keep your eyes peeled for pods of playful dolphins. If lucky, you may even swim with manta rays. A buffet lunch and soft drinks are included.

Naifaru turtle sanctuary. A great 2 in 1 half-day excursion that allows you to visit a local island to get a glimpse of the day-to-day life of local residents, and pay a visit to the Atoll Marine Centre, a conservation facility run by the local NGO Naifaru Juvenile and supported and manned by Atoll Volunteers. The marine centre is home to dozens of turtles that are being rehabilitated to be strong enough to return to the ocean. The trip includes snorkelling on a nearby coral reef too.

Night fishing or morning casting fishing. Fishing plays a big part in the Maldivian culture. A vast majority of the nation is in fact water and it’s no surprise the Maldivians are experts in all types of fishing, including casting fishing. Venture out with the locals to the top spots and spin that reel!
