Greetings from the Maldives!

I am delighted to let you know that, since I last wrote to you, Komandoo Maldives has been awarded TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Award for 2023 – placing our boutique resort amongst the top 10% of hospitality businesses worldwide. Adding further to Komandoo’s impressive collection of accolades is the recent ‘Traveller Review Award’ by Booking.com, where we achieved an impressive 9.5 out of 10. I extend my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you who took the time to write about your stays with us.

May was not just about awards; it was also about turtles as we celebrated World Turtle Day. As our resort logo suggests, every day is a turtle day here at Komandoo as not only is Lhaviyani Atoll home to the largest green turtle community in the Maldives, but we also have around 30 resident hawkbill turtles on our very own house reef, making a bucket list tick of ‘swimming with turtles’ very easy to tick off if you stay with us.

June is an important month for environmental awareness, and we will be joining the global community in marking World Environment Day on the 5th and World Oceans Day on the 8th. This year marks the 50th anniversary of World Environment Day, and the theme for 2023 is ‘Solutions to Plastic Pollution’, which Komandoo fully supports. In 2014 we stopped importing drinking water and instead made our own using a desalination plant and bottling the water in reusable glass bottles, eliminating the use of 100,000 plastic bottles per year! We say no to plastic whenever we can, so you won’t find individual portions of condiments on the buffet tables, or plastic bottles of bathroom supplies, your straws will be paper, and there won’t be a bag in the waste baskets. I believe that the solution to plastic pollution is to say ‘no’ to using plastic whenever possible. Committing to reducing the use of plastic is a great way to celebrate World Oceans Day, too, since plastic is a huge threat to the health of the oceans and marine life.

As we move further towards the summer season, there is still much to look forward to and get excited about, from carefree-childfree summer holidays where wellness opportunities can recharge your soul, to manta diving and snorkelling adventures in the autumn, and Komandoo’s festive extravaganza as the year draws to a close – there’s something for everyone.
