Swim, Snorkel & Dive with the Maldives’ Manta Rays

Diving and snorkelling in the Maldives are bucket list items for every ocean lover, yet there is something in particular that has a jaw-dropping effect on Komandoo guests: manta rays. If sea and weather conditions are on our side, the coming months will see what we like to refer to as the Lhaviyani Atoll manta mania!

Although manta rays can be spotted throughout the year at various places around Lhaviyani Atoll, the real manta mania occurs when divers and snorkellers are lucky to see them on almost a daily basis and in larger congregations. Usually, they arrive at the Fushivaru Thila cleaning station in late September, and then move to the lagoons in the west of the atoll, very close to Komandoo, at the start of the northeast monsoon, sometime in November. We generally have the pleasure to snorkel and dive with manta rays regularly until March.

Due to the ocean’s unpredictability, you can’t always get what you want, but if you try, sometimes, well, you might find just what you came to see!

Be sure to check in daily to our Facebook page and Instagram for the latest updates, and be sure to sign up for just about every snorkelling and diving trip when at Komandoo to increase your chances of seeing these beauties yourself!
