Message from the Resident Manager – May 2021
Dear Guests,
As is usual at Komandoo, we have had another fantastic month with many of you enjoying your much-deserved and long-awaited holidays here with us. There have been no surprises with the weather, it’s been warm and sunny with water temperatures to match. Those who embarked upon diving and snorkelling adventures were treated to the magnificent underwater realm lying just off the beach and at reefs nearby – you never quite get used to the abundance of marine life right on our doorstep!
May saw the celebration of World Turtle Day, always a special time at Komandoo as we have many ‘residents’ on our reef – the last count was an astounding 30 individual hawksbill turtles and 3 green turtles having been identified here so far.
Celebrations on land have included recent promotions of some of our Champions – Vinod, Sanwar, Asfaau and Nalinda are all eager to serve you in their new roles; we have also welcomed Nirugham as our new Assistant Front Office Manager. There have been some astounding achievements with regards to long service too – Senthil has been with us for 22 years, Riza for 20 years and Youssuf has clocked up 10 years. It is these familiar faces that make your return to Komandoo feel like you’ve just returned home and I’m sure you will join me in congratulating them on their awards.
We are very happy to have welcomed back Christian as Executive Chef – he said goodbye to Komandoo 8 years ago but the call of his island home was too much to resist. Amongst Christian’s new projects is the relaunch of Aqua Restaurant where he has created an exciting new menu that will begin in June – we don’t want to spoil the surprise just yet but we can say that that it will bring a touch of the Maldives to your culinary journey while still incorporating an international element.
We know that travel continues to pose challenges for some of our guests but rest assured we are here ready and waiting to take away the stresses of recent months as soon as you are able to return. The Maldives itself is about as safe as it gets with the one-island-one-resort set up and oodles of space. The safety procedures give peace of mind while still enabling full enjoyment of a Maldives holiday. Our PCR testing facility is complimentary for stays of 7 nights or more so why not start by visiting our special offers page and organising your trip to your home away from home – something to look forward to is always a great boost.
I look forward to welcoming you soon,
With best wishes,
Dustin
